Road workers, known locally as the "Grave Men" build and maintain some of the highest roads in the world at altitudes over 5,000 metres between Srinigar and Kargil on the Kashmir Highway in northern India. The roads are open for only four months a year due to extreme weather conditions in the Himalayan region. Workers receive 100 rupees (USD$2.30) per day.
