Since the first conflict in 1947 Kashmir has remained a hot spot between India and Pakistan. Both India and Pakistan believe the whole of Kashmir should belong to them. Militant activity in Kashmir has increased substantially since 1989 and it's estimated that as many as 40,000 have died in the fighting.
